Teachers change lives every day

Thank you, Mrs. Whelan

Author: Asha Whiteway
Teacher's name: Pamela Whelan
Teacher's school: Carbonear Collegiate

I first had Mrs. Whelan in grade ten. She was my first high school English teacher and she intimidated the life out of me! She had a very big personality and you could tell she was passionate about the course. Ever since then I have had a very close relationship with Mrs. Whelan and I don’t know where I would be if I hadn’t met her. She is not only a teacher but a mentor, friend, and counselor all in one. I could, and still can, go to her about absolutely anything – whether it be for advice or just to rant. It is incredible how no matter what, she is always there for her students, and always wants to see them succeed.

Mrs. Whelan does whatever she can to keep English interesting for her students and you can always count on leaving her classroom with a smile. She teaches you what you need to know, but also allows time for her silly stories and life lessons. Words cannot describe how fortunate I am to have had Mrs. Whelan for a teacher. She has made such a difference in my life and I am positive that many other students can say the same thing.

Pam was always there for me whenever I needed her, and she always supported what I did. She has gotten me through some of my darkest times and I could never thank her enough for that. Although I only ever had her once as a teacher, she has had a tremendous impact on my life. Her laugh is contagious and you always see her with a smile on her face. I am beyond thankful to have met this down-to-earth, caring, funny, and compassionate woman who I can now call a lifelong friend. She has the biggest heart and has always stood by my side.

Thank you, Mrs. Whelan!
