I was a typical kid, growing up in western Labrador; however in Grade 7 I began to make some choices that most definitely would have changed the course of my life. I had a teacher who decided that he was going to go above and beyond the call of simply being a teacher. Through his involvement with my parents, my life again resumed the original track I had been on. I have gone on in life to have a successful career, completed a bachelors and masters degree and I am currently completing a PhD.
While I know my parents have played a huge part in the course of my life, my Grade 7 teacher assisted getting me here. Quite often I find myself wondering if he hadn’t cared enough, where would I be now?
Thank you Mr. Hurley – you will never understand how much it means to me, even to this day, that you were not only my teacher, but a friend.
