Teachers change lives every day

Thank you, Mrs. Leamon

Author: Jillian Bishop
Teacher's name: Sandra Leamon
Teacher's school: St. James' Elementary

I was one of the lucky ones. I thrived in our overcrowded school. However, once I knew who my teacher in Grade 4 would be, I became nervous. I remember getting warnings from older students that Mrs. Leamon was strict, perhaps the most strict in our school. This worried me because even though I was successful with most subjects, I was painfully shy, and worried that I’d get negative attention for this.

However, Mrs. Leamon was far from the image I had conjured up in my mind. Instead, she was one of the teachers who truly cared. Mrs. Leamon provided me and others who finished work early with learning centers that we could complete on our own, at our own pace. These learning centers kept me busy and engaged in learning.

She was firm, but fair. Rather than having a horrible school year, it was the most memorable year of my elementary education. Mrs. Leamon later inspired me (whether she realized it or not) to become a teacher myself.

Thank you, Mrs. Leamon. You made a difference in my life.
