Teachers change lives every day

Thank you, Mr. Linehan

Author: Tina Traverse
Teacher's name: Des Linehan
Teacher's school: St. Anne's Academy

Back in my day, St. Anne’s Academy in Dunville was an all grade school so I had many teachers to choose from, but the one that stands out was Des Linehan. He was my favourite. Why? I did well in most of my subjects, but math was a struggle. In high school, I was failing my math course until Mr. Linehan took me under his wing, using his patience and skill to improve my math skills to the point where I was not only passing but excelling in his class.

But, that wasn’t all. I had self-esteem issues and was painfully shy. Des Linehan’s compassion, patience and guidance made me feel so special that I felt I was worthy and could accomplish great things!

I recently realized my dream and now a published author and the proud mother of two autistic sons. They too, are blessed with teachers who care for them and going above and beyond the call of duty to make them feel special. Just like Mr. Linehan did for me.

Thank you, sir! You’re a blessing to the profession.
